On Sunday 23rd of April, The UK government Emergency Alert System test will happen
Your mobile phone or tablet may:
– make a loud siren-like sound, even if it’s set on silent
– vibrate
– read out the alert
The sound and vibration will last for about 10 seconds
You may get an alert relating to:
– severe flooding
– fires
– extreme weather
Phone users will be unable to use other features on their devices unless they acknowledge the alert
** If anyone has a secret phone hidden from an abusive partner etc., remember to switch off the device or put in airplane mode **
To opt out:
Search your settings for ‘emergency alerts’.
Turn off ‘severe alerts’ and ‘extreme alerts’.

You do not need to sign up for them or download an app
The government does not need to know your phone number or location to send you an alert
